Rammey Sluice is used by the Environment Agency to manage water levels in the River Lee Flood Relief Channel. It is comprised of 3 vertical sluice gates, a fish pass and an Eel pass.
The work undertaken involved replacement of the 3 sluice gates and associated headworks, access platforms and control panel and the installation of a new fish and eel pass.
Due to the restraints on lifting imposed by the overhead cables, Huntons designed and installed a gantry crane which was then used to install all of the equipment which lowered the number of lifts required, reducing the risk of an overhead cable strike.
The gantry crane is now used to install the stoplogs and lift items used in routine maintenance, which reduces the maintenance cost as it removes the need to hire in a crane each time lifting is required.
