Huntons have recently completed the design, fabrication, installation and commissioning of a new tidal defense barrier installed at the entrance of Aberaeron harbour. Working for BAM Nuttall, work began on the design in 2023 for the hydraulically operated flood gate and associated penstock and control system. Fabrication of the 20 ton steel gate took place through 2024 along with the competition of the control system at Huntons electrical workshop. A full Factory Acceptance Test was carried out with the MCC, Hydraulic power pack and cylinders and penstock Actuator to the clients requirements.
The site works were completed over approximately 6 weeks working to a tight client deadline in the summer of 2025. Using multiple tried and tested techniques Huntons have developed for this type of gate installation, the site works progressed quickly to schedule. The gate was fully commissioned and put into operation on schedule and will help to protect Aberaeron Harbour for many years.
